Five Reasons to Have a Destination Wedding

In today’s climate, people are opting for smaller celebrations for many reasons. Cost of a full blown wedding and Covid being a couple of them. I do believe that people’s priorities have changed and a big white wedding isn’t what everyone wants. That’s totally OK! The popularity of completely eloping with just a photographer and an officiant is high right now too. But how do you go from having that 150-200 person wedding in your home town at the church you grew up in to inviting 40 guest to a beach in Mexico with you? Will it be as fulfilling as the quintessential ballroom wedding reception? Maybe. It’s not for everyone. So here are 5 reasons why it COULD be for you.

  1. They Can Be More Affordable.

Believe it or not, it can be a cost savings of up to 40% of a traditional wedding. Not only will less people come (guests = food & beverage costs + decor & flowers, etc) but a lot of hotels and venues have fabulous packages and services with great concessions and amenities for bringing your guests to their place to celebrate!

  2. You Can Celebrate with Those Closest To You.

You can more easily trim that guest list of the proverbial “fat” and not worry about having to invite people you didn’t want to spend time with any way. Yes - I said it so you don’t have to. This is a great way to go on a fun trip with your favorite family and friends without the awkwardness of a random guest eating and drinking your food. ;)

  3. Wedding and Honeymoon in One.

We highly recommend it! Take those 10-15 days off (minimum!) and do it in style. Celebrate at the venue/hotel with your friends and then take off on your own. Heck, you can switch resorts, too! One big trip for two amazing reasons.

  4. The Celebration Lasts Longer.

From welcome party to rehearsal dinner to wedding to all the activities in between, the wedding is a week long celebration if you want it to be! Plan little get togethers, excursions and surprises for your guests to really let them know how much you appreciate them coming all this way to be with you.

  5. Your Photos Will Be Amazing!

Yours won’t look like any one else’s and it’ll feel more special. You created your own adventure, hired an incredible photographer and get to document your story in a wild, new place. Why wouldn’t you want that to hang on your wall? Epic, unique and full of memories. Nothing wrong with the old church back home but there’s something to be said about Lake Como or the Tetons as your backdrop.
